The Department of Teaching and Learning within the College of Education at the University of Iowa is seeking an adjunct instructor for the following course taught in the Fall semester 2025:
- This course addresses the following topics: Individual growth and change due to environment, economy, and technology; focus on developing teacher's understanding of social and behavioral sciences and how they relate to geography, history, and government in student's growth toward democratic citizenship; emphasis on need to develop intellectually stimulating curricula based on Iowa Core in behavioral science; lesson and curriculum development from research-based best practices in teaching social studies and driven by Iowa Core goals and objectives; technology as a teaching tool and focus of investigation in today's society.
Instruction and student support for the 3-semester hour course will include the following responsibilities:
- Adaptation of a course syllabus
- Leading instruction for the course
- Providing meeting time for students enrolled in the course
- Managing the online course system (ICON) for the course
Master's degree in an education-related field. Special consideration will be given to social studies related fields like History, Geography, Economics, Political Science, and Sociology.
Adjunct Instructor must have completed an accredited Teacher Education Program in the United States and held a teaching license in the United States.
Adjunct Instructor must have successfully completed a minimum of two years of teaching at the Elementary, Middle School, Junior High or High School level with experience working with social studies curriculum in the United States.
