The Department of Religious Studies seeks to hire one academic support for Fall 2025 courses listed below. These courses vary in credit hours and will be taught as either onsite residential courses or online courses - in some cases both - for the entire semester, August, 25, 2025 through December, 12, 2025.
REL-611/Rel 611E-First Turning: Mind/Emotions (3 Credits)
This course is an online asynchronous course, which will meet during the Fall 25 semester from August 25,2025 -December 12, 2025.
The first turning introduces the early sutra discourses of the Buddha and the abhidharma (higher dharma) distillation of the Buddhist teachings on the nature, structure, and operation of the mind and emotions. This course provides a selected survey of the essential texts from both the Northern (Vaibhashika) and Southern (Theravada) schools, along with historical context and applications to meditation practice.
Onsite: Academic Support members spend most of their time in their classrooms or in virtual meetings with some time in offices. In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness.
