Hours: 3:30pm-2:00am Monday-Friday. 11:00am-5:00pm if there's Saturday work.
Position Summary: The Tool Room Helper assists in lifting, moving, maintaining, and assembling tooling components. This role requires hands-on mechanical work, including cleaning, sharpening, and inspecting tooling to ensure it meets specifications. Must be interesting in training to become a Machinist.
Key Responsibilities:
Lift, move, clamp, and bolt dies and fixtures on machines using hand tools.
Lubricate, clean, and maintain tool room equipment.
Assist in lifting and positioning workpieces.
Clean machines and work areas.
Inspect tools for wear and broken or non-functioning components.
Compare workpieces with prints and measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications.
Place workpieces into heating furnaces or preheat workpieces using a hand torch.
Disassemble and clean dies using cleaning solutions, brushes, and rags.
Sharpen dies and punches.
Reassemble tooling to proper functional status.
Make shims to maintain existing or newly re-engineered timing of assembled tooling.
Perform other customer-driven or product-driven duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
In Training:
Maintain a work log for tooling to develop maintenance and problem history.
Diagnose problems concerning piece part or manufacturing capability of dies.
Repair detail components (without replacement details available) for lathe, mill, grinder, drill press, and heat treat.
Learn proper maintenance practices for tooling, including polishing, stoning, and redressing forms and contours.
Operate specialized tool room equipment, including OD-ID grinder, CNC lathe, mills, jig grinder, and EDM as needed.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.
